Condor left Nongsa Point at 11:00 Singapore time (UTC+8) on Thu 11
November 2004 and arrived at Republic of Singapore Yacht Club at 15:11
the same day.
We crossed the straight at right angles directly opposite Nongsa.
Looking at the radar or through binoculars was very intimidating but the
actual crossing was straightforward. It was easier to ignore the radar
and do it visually.
Our plan was to turn on a reciprocal course to any approaching ship and
then take it's stern as it passed, but we got lucky and hardly had to
alter course at all.
We then travelled West along the South Singapore coast. This was a zoo
of parked ships and other traffic.
The shipping and shoreline was spectacular, I've never seen anything
like it.

RSYC marina is first class with great staff, swimming pool bars,
restaurants and the classiest showers I've ever seen.

Follows now update message from David via satellite link:

We left Cairns at 9:30 local (GMT + 10:00) on Sat 2 Oct 2004. A Big End bearing went on the generator so we decided to have it rebuilt. It took a long time for all the parts to arrive from the US.
At 10:00 local on Sun 3 Oct we were at 14 29 S 144 51 E with virtually no wind.
We are heading directly to Darwin to pick up Claire who is there arranging our Indonesia visas. We will probably stop at Horn Island in the Torres Strait just to pick up fuel. We should arrive at Horn on Tuesday 8:00 and at Darwin on Saturday 9 October at about 20:00.
We'll either have a very short stay in Darwin just to take on fuel and clear customs or, if we need a break, we'll stay a day or two. We'll probably have to wait until Monday morning for the fuel dock to open anyway.
Regards, David.

Condor left Raiatea at 13:06 local on 13 June 2004.   We're headed
either for Niue or Tonga depending on the location of the other boats at
the time.   We seem to be only a couple of days behind some of the other
boats.

We spent a week in Raiatea fixing a serious generator problem.   A salt
water hose just above it had been leaking and dripping salt water into
the electrical control panel.   Eventually it shorted out with a puff of
smoke and the generator stopped producing electricity.   This meant we
could not make water or charge batteries because the engine alternator
failed a week ago but that has now been replaced too.   One of the brass
terminals had melted completely, the insulation had burned away on many
of the wires and one or two wires themselves had melted.   The biggest
problem was that we had to lift it (340 pounds) and rotate it through 90
degrees to get at the wiring.   None of the windings or transformers had
been damaged and we had enough wire to replace those that have been
damaged.   We used most of our supply of heat shrink tubing to replace
the insulation.   Anyway its now working OK and the salt water leak has
also been fixed.

We had to return to Raiatea because of a problem with the generator
which the boatyard there should be able to fix. We'll leave from here
to Rarotonga as soon as the generator is working again. We'll probably
end up a few days behind the rest of the rally but shou;d easily catch
